What is The Foundation of Light?
The Foundation of Light is the registered charity of Sunderland AFC. Founded by Sir Bob Murray in 2001, the foundation aims to improve lives through the power of football.
Since 2001, The Foundation of Light has grown to become of the most pioneering charities in the world, raising £4million every year to run life changing programs for people aged 18 months – 80 years old.
The Foundation aims to ‘offer something for everyone’ with community programs that benefit health, behaviour, attitude, skills, knowledge and more.
The organisation does this by hiring ‘passionate, dedicated and highly skilled’ professional teachers, coaches, health workers, youth workers and various support staff to deliver these programs to the local community.
Moving forward, The Foundation of Light will be launching The Beacon of Light, an education and sports facility to further help improve lives using football.
The Beacon will be the first of its kind in the UK and will allow over 6,000 people each week to access a variety of programs.
